Arsene Wenger is close to making €50 million-rated Mauro Icardi his first signing of the summer for Arsenal, according to reports in Italy.

The 23-year-old striker is believed to be on the verge of a move to the Emirates as talks between Arsenal and Inter Milan gained pace, according to Corriere dello Sport.

A fee of around €45 million to €50 million (£38-£42 million/$50-55 million) is believed to be prepared by Arsenal for the Argentinian striker.

Icardi has scored 47 goals in 88 appearances for the Serie A club, and would act as cover support to Olivier Giroud in attack for Arsenal.

A deal between the two clubs could be completed within the next 72 hours, according to the Italian newspaper.
