Jose Mourinho believes 19-year-old Marcus Rashford is capable of breaking Wayne Rooney and Sir Bobby Charlton's goalscoring record at Manchester United.

Rooney, 31, drew level with Charlton on 249 goals for Manchester United during the club's 4-0 win over Reading on Saturday in the third round of the FA Cup.

Also on the scoresheet for United was Rashford, who has already netted 14 goals for the club since breaking into the first puts him on course to equal the club record, according to Mourinho.

"Marcus, he is 19," the Portuguese said. "If he plays at Man United until the end of his career, maybe Marcus can do it.

"Rooney scored a lot of goals. Especially in the modern football I see, it would be really difficult. Who knows?"

Manchester United, sixth in the Premier League table, host Hull at Old Trafford on Tuesday in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final.

Mourinho's side then returns to league action at the weekend with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool traveling to Manchester on Sunday.
