Manchester United has told Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin that they can leave the club in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The out-of-favor players, who both moved to Manchester United in the summer of 2015, have failed to start a Premier League game for Jose Mourinho this season.

Interest in the duo is said to come from Merseyside, with Everton strongly linked to a move for Depay, the 22-year-old Dutchman, as well as Schneiderlin, who played for Ronald Koeman at Southampton.

According to the Daily Mail, the two players have both been told they can seek a transfer when the window reopens in January.

Mourinho has expressed a desire to retain the players he currently has at his disposal into February but says that will not shut the door on potential transfers.

"I am always open to listen to offers for every player," Mourinho said.

"What I can say is that I am happy with the squad. I would like my (current) squad to be my squad until the end of the season."

United travels to south London on Wednesday to face Alan Pardew's Crystal Palace as it looks to gain ground on Premier League leaders Chelsea.
