'Star Wars' Celebration: The Biggest News From 'Andor' to 'The Mandalorian'

The Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim is the place to be if you want to be the first to hear all about the iconic sci-fi franchise's future.

But if you can't make it to the highly anticipated event, which began on Thursday, May 26, and ends on Sunday, don't worry because Newsweek is here to keep you up to date on the biggest news from a galaxy far, far away.

The Biggest News From 'Star Wars' Celebration 2022

From new details about Diego Luna's return as Cassian Andor in Andor, to The Mandalorian Season 3, here is everything you need to know.

1. 'Andor' Gets a Release Date and Trailer

Obi-Wan Kenobi may have only just started airing on Disney+, but we already know what will come next: Andor.

The series, which sees Luna return to the titular role, will follow Andor in the early days of the Rebellion, long before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

At the Star Wars Celebration it was confirmed that the series would have 12 episodes in total in its first season, and that a second season had already been commissioned by Lucasfilm.

A trailer gave fans their first look at the show, and it was also announced that it would premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, August 31.

Sharing what fans can expect from his character, Luna teased at the event: "You're not going to recognize Cassian at the beginning. He's a very selfish man. You're going to see a guy who's waiting for that awakening to happen."

On August 1, LucasFilm confirmed on Twitter that the show would instead have a new release date: Wednesday, September 21.

A new trailer released for the series also confirmed the new release date, and it was revealed that the show would debut with its first three episodes.

2. 'The Mandalorian' Will Be Back...Soon

Another update that Star Wars fans will be excited about is for The Mandalorian Season 3, as Lucasfilm has confirmed it will be released in February 2023.

Footage from the new season, which is in post-production, was also shown at the event, and it was said to show the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) meeting Bo-Katan (Katee Sakhoff) and deciding to go with Grogu to Mandalore.

Per Star Wars' official website, Din Djarin said: "I'm going to Mandalore so that I may be forgiven for my transgressions."

3. The 'Willow' Trailer is Out

While not Star Wars news, Lucasfilm did share an exciting update about Ron Howard's Willow TV series, which sees Warwick Davis return as Willow Ufgood.

A first-look trailer showed Davis back in his eponymous role, and at a panel for the show, the actor said of the sequel: "It's something I always wanted to do. It's a dream, in fact."

4. An Update on 'Ahsoka'

The next Star Wars series to go into production is Ahsoka, which will follow the Jedi (played by Rosario Dawson) in an all-new story.

Dave Filoni, who is making the series alongside Jon Favreau, said: "We are super-fortunate to have Rosario Dawson fronting this. She is just everything I could hope for her to be."

Dawson sent a video message from the set to fans to confirm that the series is expected to be released in 2023.

It was also teased the live-action debut of Star Wars: Rebels characters Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, and Chopper.

5. Jude Law is Going to a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Jon Watts and Chris Ford also shared news about their new Disney+ show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.

The duo confirmed that the series will star Jude Law in an as-yet-unannounced role, and that the story with center "around a group of children lost in space."

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is expected to be released in 2023.

6. 'Indiana Jones 5' Has a Release Date

John Williams celebrated his 90th birthday atthe Star Wars Celebration by putting on a performance of the iconic music he has scored for the franchise, and he then took a moment to play the theme tune to Indiana Jones.

As Williams did so, Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold, and producer Frank Marshall took to the stage, before announcing that the new film would be coming out on June 30, 2023.

Ford said of the film: "We have almost completed the next Indiana Jones film, featuring the music of John Williams. I am really proud of the movie that we made. So I'll be seeing you around campus."

7. 'Star Wars: The Bad Batch' Season 2

The first trailer for Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 was released at Star Wars Celebration, and it confirmed that the animated series would return in Fall 2022.

As well as giving fans a first look at the new episodes, the trailer also showed that Commander Cody would return and it was teased that a Wookie Jedi will appear in the series as well.

8. 'Star Wars: Visions' Will Be Back

Anime anthology series Star Wars: Visions was confirmed to be getting a second season at Star Wars Celebration.

Volume 2 of the anime will consist of several individual episodes animated by a different studio and telling a different story. It will be released in spring 2023.

9. 'Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi' will Take a Look Backwards

A new animated series was also announced at Star Wars Celebration titled Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi.

The short films will tell unique stories about characters Ahsoka, Count Dooku, and Qui-Gon Jinn, and it will be released on Disney+ this fall.
