'Immediate Chills': Teen Discovers Late Mom Was Boyfriend's Teacher

Australian teen Leah Menzies went viral online after a wholesome discovery about her boyfriend and her late mother.

Menzies, 18, was left saddened when realizing that her mom, who passed away 11 years ago, would be unable to meet her boyfriend. It's a sadness however that was eased with a recent find—her mom was her boyfriend's kindergarten teacher.

The pair had no idea despite having dated for seven months but boyfriend Thomas McLeod made the connection while looking through his old photos.

A class photo showed Menzies' mom with McLeod and his fellow students. Her mom only taught at kindergarten for one year, which makes the news all the more surprising for her.

"My boyfriend was getting out his photo album to show me a picture from when he was younger, on the first page was his kindergarten class photo and there he spotted my mom," Menzies told Newsweek.

"He had his hand to his mouth and he was just repeating OH MY GOD over and over again. I asked him what happened thinking he was being dramatic about something but when I saw what he was pointing at I immediately started crying."

Found out through this photo in his photo album. A moment straight out of a movie 🥲

Sharing the beautiful moment to TikTok, Menzies wrote that she was sad while "thinking my mum (who died when I was 7) will never get to meet my future boyfriend, only to find out she was his kindergarten teacher."

The video gained over 33 million views and left viewers stunned with the connection, leaving "immediate chills."

"This is actually incredible," wrote one user.

Songwriter FINNEAS even took notice of the clip, commenting: "Oh cool, sobbing." Cirque Du Soleil joked: "Shouldn't have watched this before going up on stage."

"This is the cutest thing I have watched," added another.

In a follow-up video, Menzies clarified that she didn't know her boyfriend before dating him and so had no idea he had a connection to her mom. "I didn't know Thomas before we started dating and we started dating seven months ago, we met in high school but we had no family connections prior to that and there was no way that we knew each other," she explained.

"He does not remember my mum cause he was 3/4 but his mom who would help out at the kindy often described my mom to be a kind and gentle person," Menzies told Newsweek.

"I didn't actually know that my mom taught at kindergarten, I just knew that she was a teacher and I didn't know she did kindergarten so that was probably like only one year that she taught there, and it just so happened to be Thomas' year."

TikTok has birthed countless emotional videos that pull on the heartstrings of viewers across the app. In 2021, two twin sisters unearthed a family connection on the app, discovering themselves to be long lost twin sisters who were given up for adoption 30 years ago.

Earlier this year, a grandmother's discovery that her family would be moving closer to her also warmed hearts, while a man's union with his three long-lost siblings was documented in a viral video on the platform.
