Video of Jim Carrey Forcibly Kissing Alicia Silverstone at Awards Reemerges

Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on the Oscars stage on Sunday night has sent reverberations throughout Hollywood and now Jim Carrey is one of the latest stars to find themselves facing backlash for sharing their thoughts on the incident.

Social media users are calling Carrey out for this behavior after the Dumb and Dumber star condemned Smith for his actions during an interview with CBS Mornings on Tuesday.

This prompted social media users to highlight a video of him appearing to forcibly kiss Alicia Silverstone on the lips at an awards ceremony 25 years ago.

The clip is from the 1997 MTV Movie Awards and it shows a then 35-year-old Carrey seemingly forcing a kiss on the mouth of the then-19-year-old Silverstone as he accepted the award for best comedic performance for Cable Guy.

The clip, shared by Twitter user @ycsm1n, had racked up more than 2 million views at the time of publishing. Silverstone's name is also trending on the platform thanks to the video.

The viral tweet reads: "says the guy who sexually assaulted alicia silverstone on stage."

"That video of Jim kissing Alicia Silverstone in the mouth without her consent... " reads another tweet.

While a different person added: "Jim Carrey is bold...didnt he kiss Alicia Silverstone on stage without consent and she said she felt humiliated?"

Newsweek has contacted Carrey's representatives for comment.

Another clip from the 1997 MTV Movie Awards is doing the rounds and it shows Carrey attempting to plant another unwanted kiss on Will Smith himself.

Carrey said on CBS Mornings that Smith should have been arrested after he walked onto the stage during the Oscars ceremony and slapped Rock after he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

"I was sickened, I was sickened by the standing ovation," Carrey said, referencing the applause for Smith when he won Best Actor for his role in King Richard moments later.

"I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we're not the cool club anymore."

Host Gayle King then asked Carrey: "If anyone else had walked from the audience and done that, they would've been escorted out by security or maybe even arrested."

To which Carrey stated: "He should have been."

Carrey added: "I would have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200m because that video is going to be there forever" in relation to Rock's decision not to press charges.

Smith has since apologized for hitting Rock on Sunday night, writing on social media: "Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally."
