Wordle #400 Clues, Hints and Answer for Sunday, July 24 Game

Even the most seasoned Wordle player can be stumped by the viral brainteaser on some days.

A play on the name of its creator, software engineer Josh Wardle began working on Wordle in 2013 and finished it during the COVID-19 lockdown with help from his partner Palak Shah. It was released online at the end of 2021 and played by a few dozen people a day.

But it soon became an online sensation attracting millions of regular players—and its reach has continued to grow since it was acquired by The New York Times Company for an undisclosed sum earlier this year.

It has now become a daily habit for millions of people around the world, who take a few moments out of each day to solve the puzzle. Such is Wordle's popularity that it has also inspired a host of other daily puzzles like the globe-trotting guessing game Worldle and the math-based Nerdle.

The premise is simple enough: one five-letter word per day and six attempts to guess it.

A color-coded system tells players when they have correctly guessed a letter in the word. If the letter is in the right place, the tile turns green, if it is in the wrong place, it turns yellow and if the letter is not in the word at all, the tile goes gray.

Strategy is important due to the limited number of guesses available. It's a good idea to start with a word rich in vowels, like "audio," or "adieu," and avoid less common letters like X, Q and Z until you have a better idea of what the answer might be.

And while it may sound straightforward, obscure words can sometimes stump even the most avid players.

The answer resets every day, so players only have 24 hours to guess each day's word and retain their Wordle win streak.

To make sure a tricky word doesn't mean losing a hard-earned streak, Newsweek has put together a few hints to help out Wordle fans.
