Zara Tindall is Pregnant—Queen Elizabeth II Has a New Great Grandchild on the Way

Zara Tindall is pregnant with her third child—and Queen Elizabeth II's great-grandchild, rugby player husband Mike Tindall revealed.

The couple is yet to tell their eldest daughter Mia, 6, for fear she would tell all her school friends, the former England star said.

The new arrival will be their third as Mia has a younger sister, Lena, aged two-and-a-half.

Queen Elizabeth II and husband Prince Philip are "delighted" with the news, a spokesperson said.

The Tindalls are being careful after "things that have happened in the past"—an apparent reference to the tragedy of Zara's two previous miscarriages.

Mike Tindall told podcast The Good, the Bad and the Rugby: "Been a good week for me, had a little scan last week, third Tindall on its way."

He joked: "We're not sure what to do, but Covi or Covina. I don't know where to go with names.

"Z [Zara] is very good, always careful because of things that have happened in the past and, yeah, really looking forward to it.

"I'd like a boy this time, I've got two girls. I would like a boy but I will love it whatever, whether a boy or a girl, but please be a boy."

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: "Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are aware and delighted."

Tindall claimed Zara, the queen's granddaughter, did not know he was sharing the news, saying: "I'm not going to tell her that I've told you."

And the rugby star added that his co-hosts James Haskell and Alex Payne had heard the news before Mia.

He said: "We haven't told Mia yet, just, we knew she would tell everyone at school. We will tell her now that we've gone through the scans, yes, of course, we'll tell her.

"No, I think she'll be happy about it. She has been requesting another sister or brother. So, we've hopefully fulfilled that role for her.

"She just wants something different now. Lena's growing up, she's two and half now, she wants something younger to play with and dress up."

He added that it was a "good end" to 2020.

Zara Tindall is the daughter of Princess Anne, the queen's second child, and her husband Mark Phillips.

The new arrival will be a cousin of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's son Archie as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton's children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Meghan revealed her own July miscarriage in a recent essay titled The Losses we Share for The New York Times.
