Spanish police estimated that about 600,000 people celebrated “La Diada,” the National Day of Catalonia on September 11. The annual festival, which traditionally draws big flag-waving crowds of supporters of indpendence for the reigon, marks the defeat of Catalan troops by King Phillip V of in 1714. This year’s attendance, however, was a decline from the roughly 1 million who turned out in 2018.
