Greek police, on February 26, fought with demonstrators who were protesting the construction of a new migrant camp near Mantamados on the northeastern Aegean island of Lesbos. The Greek islands of Lesbos, Chios and Samos staged a general strike. Small groups of protesters threw stones and even fire bombs at police who fought back with tear gas and flash grenades. The controversial camp is intended to house up to 7,000 people.
