Meghan Markle Oprah Interview: The Best Clips for Those Who Missed It

Oprah Winfrey's interview with Meghan Markle was the TV event of the year, with millions watching live as it aired on CBS. More casual royal fans, however, may have balked at the two-hour running time and decided to wait for the juiciest moments to make it online. We have collected all of the most explosive moments from Oprah's interviews with Meghan and Prince Harry below.

'I didn't want to be alive'

Many have praised Meghan for her openness about her mental health struggles during the Oprah interview. Most dramatically, the former actor spoke about suicidal thoughts she had as a working royal.

She said: "I just didn't want to be alive any more. And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought." She went on to accuse the palace of denying her help: "They said, my heart goes out to you because I see how bad it is, but there's nothing we can do to protect you because you're not a paid employee of the institution."

Concerns about Archie's skin color

Questions have been raised about racism in the palace in relation to Meghan since at least 2017, when Princess Michael of Kent came to visit Meghan wearing a racist brooch she later had to apologize for.

In the interview, meanwhile, Meghan alleged that the palace was concerned about what skin color her son Archie would have. She said: "We have in tandem the conversation of, 'You won't be given security, not gonna be given a title' and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he's born."

Kate makes Meghan cry

Meghan took the opportunity to clear up some press stories about her that she said were false, such as one that claimed she made Prince William's wife Kate cry in the lead-up to Meghan and Harry's wedding. In the interview, Meghan told Oprah that it had actually been the other way round. "A few days before the wedding," Meghan said, "she [Kate] was upset about something, pertaining to—yes the issue was correct—about the flower girl dresses, and it made me cry. And it really hurt my feelings."

Meghan was 'silenced'

In a moment that had been widely teased before CBS aired the interview, Oprah asked Meghan to clarify whether she was "silent" after her marriage to Harry or "silenced" by the palace. Meghan replied: "The latter."

Though Oprah's interview with Meghan has received the majority of the headlines, the special also saw the legendary presenter talk with Prince Harry. He revealed that, like his wife, he became somewhat estranged from his father.

The royal said: "I had three conversations with my grandmother [Queen Elizabeth II], and two conversations with my father before he stopped taking my calls." He later added, however, that the pair are talking again and have "lots to work through."
