'Pokémon Go' Raid Update: Changes Getting Players Ready for Gen 4

Regirock has been added to Pokémon Go, and with its arrival come changes to the Pokémon that appear in Raids in the popular mobile game.

These changes to the Raid battles are common, and normally occur during events or when a larger update is on the horizon like the inevitable introduction of Gen 4. With the Sinnoh region being teased for Pokémon Go , the Pokémon that are now appearing in Raid Battles have ties to the Diamond and Pearl games.

It's unclear how long these Raid Battle changes in Pokémon Go will last, but for the time being here is all the information players need to know.

NEW RAID POKEMON

There are five tiers in Pokémon Go Raid Battles. The easiest Pokémon to defeat and capture are in Tier 1 and increase in difficulty from there. Changes in the Raids this time around are not affecting Tier 1 battles, but there's at least one new Pokémon among all the rest. Here are all the Pokémon that appear in Raid Battles starting Aug. 16.

Tier 1

  • Magikarp
  • Makuhita
  • Meditite
  • Wailmer

Tier 2

  • Kirlia
  • Roselia
  • Mawile
  • Alola Exeggutor

Tier 3

  • Machamp
  • Tangela
  • Piloswine
  • Donphan
  • Alola Raichu

Tier 4

  • Rhydon
  • Tyranitar
  • Absol
  • Alola Marowak

TIES TO GEN 4

We pointed out above that some of the new Raid Pokémon have ties to the Sinnoh region. In Gen 4, some Pokémon from previous generations received an evolution similar to what happened when Gen 2 was introduced in Pokémon Go. Pokémon like Onix and Scyther were now able to evolve into Steelix and Scizor.

The same is the case when Gen 4 eventually is released and these new Raid Battles contain Pokémon that can evolve. We compiled a list of Pokémon that are currently available in Pokémon Go that will get an evolution in Gen 4, but here are the ones available now to catch in Raid Battles:

  • Roselia (Tier 2)
  • Kirlia (Tier 2)
  • Tangela (Tier 3)
  • Piloswine (Tier 3)
  • Rhydon (Tier 4)
