The bulk of the holiday season is still ahead of us. Phew. But looking ahead, there's an emptiness that follows, as the holiday hangover clears and New Year's resolutions are made and inevitably broken. Netflix plans to add plenty of new titles in January that might help fill that void, however superficially.

Upcoming originals include the third season of Degrassi: Next Class and the second seasons of Voltron: Legendary Defender and Kazoops! Original shows include One Day at a Time, Tarzan and Jane, We're Lalaloopsy, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Historia de un clan, The Investigator: A British Crime Story, Frontier and Terrace House: Aloha State. There will be original movies, like Clinical and Coin Heist, and stand-up comedy specials by Jim Gaffigan, Jen Kirkman, Bill Burr, Cristela Alonzo and Gad Elmaleh (whose first 2017 Netflix showcase, Gad Gone Wild, will be mostly in French, but he's got another in English coming later in the year).
Besides the originals, new shows and films scheduled to become available on the platform include movies like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Hugo, Ocean's Twelve, V for Vendetta and Disney's Alice Through the Looking Glass; documentaries like Miss Sharon Jones! and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never; and additional seasons of series like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Bates Motel.
Here's hoping 2017 is less horrible than 2016 (and every year before that). And if it's not, at least you can hibernate for the winter with a long list of streaming options.
