Arsene Wenger has insisted that the most creative cog in his team, midfielder Mesut Ozil, is keen to remain at Arsenal amid contract negotiations—but may require the club to spend big.

Ozil, the German international, has a contract at the Emirates Stadium until 2018 but is keen for the London club to offer him an extension with an improved offer.

Wenger appeared confident his club-record £42.5 million ($51 million) signing, who joined the club in 2013, would stay but recognized the cost to the Gunners.

"If you have a good bank, call me," Wenger said. "I don't think he needs convincing. He wants to stay here.

"It's not just money. Arsenal can win titles of course. But that's what we have to show. We are in a league where Man City, Man United, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, everybody fights and you cannot guarantee that to anybody.

"We keep that [negotiations] discreet. At due time we will come out with that. We want to keep our best players, of course. But the more I say that, the more he is in a stronger position."

Victory over Swansea City on Saturday and Manchester City's draw with Everton saw Wenger's side go level on points with Guardiola's team.
