Italian veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon insists his former manager Antonio Conte "doesn't do second place", having guided Chelsea back to the top of the Premier League.

The 38-year-old Juventus star worked with Conte during the Chelsea manager's time in Turin, from 2011 through 2014, where he won the Serie A league three times.

Conte has already implemented his methods at Stamford Bridge, seeing the Blues climb to the top of the table with a eight-game winning run.

"It doesn't surprise me at all that Chelsea are top of the Premier League. He [Conte] is a winner, he doesn't do second place," the Italian told Fox Sports.

"I am sure behind the scenes he has privately been getting players into line."
