Real Madrid defender Pepe is reportedly contemplating a move to Chelsea due to a wrangle over his contract negotiations at the Bernabeu.

The Portuguese centre-back will consider a move to Stamford Bridge if talks over a new deal cannot be resolved, according to the Daily Mirror.

Pepe’s contract at Real expires at the end of the season, meaning the 33-year-old is free to speak with, and sign pre-contract agreements with, foreign clubs from January 1.

This would also suit Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who is said to be keen to add strength to his defense as captain John Terry heads to the end of his playing career.

Real is believed to have offered Pepe a one-year extension but the defender wants at least another two years, having proved he is still one of the best in the world.

After a three-year spell at Porto, Pepe moved to Madrid in 2007 and has featured 220 times for the Spanish giants.

In that time, he has won the Champions League and La Liga twice.
