What Time is Super Bowl 2021? Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Guide

After waiting 50 years to return to the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs make their second consecutive appearance in the NFL championship game when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Half a century elapsed between the Chiefs' triumph in Super Bowl IV and their comeback win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV 12 months ago. They now have the chance to become the first franchise to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy in consecutive years since 2005.

Tom Brady, the man standing in their way, knows what it takes to win back-to-back Super Bowls. He was the last quarterback to accomplish the feat when the New England Patriots won Super Bowls XXXVIII and XXXIX.

Tampa, meanwhile, returns to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2003, when they defeated the Oakland Raiders 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII, and only for the second time in franchise's history.

The Bucs have already made history before a ball has been kicked in anger as they are the first team in NFL history to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium.

Here's all you need to know ahead of Super Bowl LV.

When is Super Bowl LV?

Super Bowl LV takes place on Sunday, February 7, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.

After being held in January in all but one season between 1967 and 2003, each Super Bowl in the last 18 years has been played in February. However, February 7 is the latest the Super Bowl has ever been scheduled and this year marks only the third time the NFL championship game has been scheduled on the date along with Super Bowl XLIV and Super Bowl 50.

Where is Super Bowl LV?

The NFL's championship game returns to Florida for a record 17th time as Tampa hosts its fifth Super Bowl and the first in 12 years.

Raymond James Stadium gets to stage the Big Game for a third time after playing host to Super Bowl XXXV and Super Bowl XLIII, as the Bucs become the first team in NFL history to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium.

SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles was originally meant to host Super Bowl LV but in 2017 NFL owners voted in favor of switching the game to Tampa, due to construction delays.

The home of the Rams and the Chargers was inaugurated this year and will host Super Bowl LVI next year, while Raymond James Stadium becomes only the seventh venue to host at least three Super Bowls.

Tampa Bay is 5-3 when playing at home this season, but worryingly for them three of the four Super Bowls held in Tampa have been won by the team representing the AFC.

In 1984, the Los Angeles Raiders defeated Washington 38-9, while the Baltimore Ravens beat the New York Giants 34-7 in 2001 and the Pittsburgh Steelers edged the Arizona Cardinals in 2009.

The only NFC win came in 1991, when the Giants defeated the Buffalo Bills 20-19.

Which records are at stake in Super Bowl LV?

A number of statistical milestones could be set on Sunday in Tampa. Mahomes could become the youngest quarterback in NFL history to win multiple Super Bowl titles and would join Brady as the only quarterback to lift the Lombardi Trophy twice in their first four seasons in the league.

Brady, meanwhile, could become only the second quarterback in NFL history, after Peyton Manning, to win Super Bowls with two different teams.

In his 10th Super Bowl appearance, Brady could secure the seventh ring of his extraordinary career, making him more successful than any of the 32 NFL franchises.

The two head coaches could also make history. At 62 years of age, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid could become the oldest head coach to win back-to-back Super Bowls, surpassing the record set by Vince Lombardi, who was 54 when the Green Bay Packers won Super Bowl II.

Meanwhile, at 68 years of age, Bucs head coach Bruce Arians would become the oldest head coach to win a Super Bowl, surpassing a record held by Bill Belichick, who was 66 when the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII.

Bucs vs. Chiefs series record

Super Bowl LV will be the 14th meeting between Tampa Bay and Kansas City but their first in the playoffs. The Bucs lead the all-time series between the two teams 7-6 and have won five of the last six meetings against the Chiefs, but the reigning Super Bowl champions won 27-24 at Raymond James Stadium in Week 12 of the regular season.

Patrick Mahomes passed for a season-high 462 yards and three touchdowns, while Tyreek Hill set career highs in catches and receiving yards with 13 and 260 respectively as the Chiefs shredded the Bucs.
