Two Catholic bishops have accused the White House of taking advantage of a meeting and prayer with President Donald Trump, saying the moment was "exploited" or "manipulated" less than two weeks before the midterm elections. Hello, I'm Alice Gibbs. Welcome to Newsweek's Bulletin. Here's what you need to know today. President Louise enacio Lula de Silva of the leftist Workers' Party won Brazil 's presidential run-off on Sunday, with 51.8% of valid votes to 48.2% for Flavia Bolsonaro. L ula's victory once confirmed by electoral authorities would secure home a false non-consecutive term as president. The eldest son of former president, Yahair Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27-year prison sentence over an attempted coup following his 2022 election defeat, finished first in the October 4th round. The run-off decided that Latin America's largest country will not be joining a growing bloc of right-leaning governments aligned with the Trump administration. Ohair's largest newspaper has reversed its policy against endorsing candidates in major races to back Democrat Amy Apton for governor. The plane dealer has condemned Republican Vivek Ramaswami after his campaign released an ad that featured Apt on's estranged mother calling her a liar. Apton said that she was sexually abused as a child by her stepfather, who was charged with rape in 1978 before he fled the state. The Democratic candidate said she has not seen her mother since the events took place when she was 12. Two Catholic Bishops have accused the White House of taking advantage of a meeting in paravent with President Donald Trump. Milwaukee Archbishop Jeffrey Grob and the bishops of Des Moines, Iowa, William Jensen, both issued statements after the White House distributed photos and video footage of them praying with the president during a meeting on Thursday. The bishops said that the moment was exploited or manipulated for partisan political purposes, particularly given its less than two weeks before the midterm elections. That's all for now. See you next time.
