Piers Morgan's Clash With Chelsea Handler Goes Viral: 'You're a Terrible Interviewer'

A clip of Chelsea Handler's on-air row with Piers Morgan on CNN has gone viral after the American chat show host shared it on Twitter.

Handler posted the 2014 clip in the wake of Morgan quitting the U.K. breakfast show Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.

It came after he faced a torrent of criticism for attacking Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey and questioning the veracity of her claims that she was ignored when she pleaded for help because she was feeling suicidal.

Handler shared a video of a heated exchange between herself and Morgan seven years ago, captioning the tweet: "Some asshole's get better. Some just stay the same. ⁦@piersmorgan."

Within hours, the clip had been watched more than 350,000 times and had garnered more than 26,000 likes.

It shows the verbal altercation between the two during Handler's interview on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight in March 2014. The Chelsea Lately host appeared on the show to promote her travel book Uganda Be Kidding Me, but hit out at him for not paying attention to her as his guest—an issue the pair had clashed over in the past.

Handler accused Morgan of being a "terrible interviewer" because he was checking Twitter during a commercial break.

She said: "I want viewers to know—I mean they must know because they're probably following you on Twitter—I mean, you can't even pay attention for 60 seconds. You're a terrible interviewer."

Morgan replied: "Well, you just weren't keeping my attention. That's more an issue for you than me."

The pair continued to spar, with Handler retorting: "Maybe that's why your job is coming to an end"—a reference to CNN's decision a month earlier to cancel Morgan's show.

Later in the interview, when he asked how she would relive one moment of her life, Handler replied: "It would be spending this hour differently."

The viral post comes as Morgan faces a media storm for his tirade against the Duchess of Sussex during the live broadcast of Good Morning Britain on Monday.

He called Meghan and Harry's interview "a two-hour trash-a-thon of our royal family" and cast doubt on the authenticity of her claims about her mental health, saying: "Who did you go to? What did they say to you? I'm sorry, I don't believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn't believe it if she read me a weather report."

After tens of thousands of people complained about Morgan to Ofcom, the British broadcasting watchdog, he clarified his comments on the show the next morning. He said his "real concern was a disbelief" that Meghan went to the royal household and was told she could not have any help. He said: "If that is true a) that person should be fired and b) the royal family have serious questions that need to be answered."

But during Tuesday's show, he stormed off the set after a debate about Meghan with Good Morning Britain weatherman Alex Beresford.

The British television personality has clashed with Handler several times in the past. During an appearance on CNN in January 2012, Handler called him a "buffoon", accused him of flirting with guests and criticized his pushy interviewing style.
