Whether it's your favorite movie, a childhood classic or a cult favorite, chances are there may be an Easter egg you've missed hiding in plain sight.

With lockdown giving people ample time to re-watch countless movies and TV shows, fans have taken to social media to share the quirks they never spotted before, and we've rounded up the best from 2021.

'The Lord of the Rings' Fan Spots Incredible Movie Detail 20 Years Later

The epic trilogy celebrated its 20th anniversary this month, with The Fellowship of the Ring released in December 2001.

While it may be decades since it first hit our screens, a film buff just noticed a detail regarding Gandalf's, played by Sir Ian McKellen, staff.

"Only took me 20 years to realize," Radicek wrote on Reddit, pointing out the wizard's pipe was hiding in plain sight, inside his original staff the whole time.

The post, shared in November, amassed more than 70,000 upvotes, as fellow film fans admitted they'd also never spotted the smoking tool in Gandalf the Grey's stick.

'Shrek' X-Rated Detail Spotted by Film Fan

Shrek, starring Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy, is an animated classic, suitable for all the family.

The first film in the franchise was released in 2001, and tells the fairy-tale love story of ogre Shrek rescuing, and ultimately marrying, the princess, Fiona, played by Cameron Diaz.

But before they tie the knot, Fiona nearly marries Lord Farquaad, voiced by John Lithgow, with one scene showing him looking at footage of his bride-to-be.

TikToker Kathy Martinez shared a clip to TikTok after noticing the character becomes visibly excited, with a tell-tale bulge appearing underneath the covers, as he gazes at Fiona.

"Did anyone else catch that?" Martinez asked.

'Back to the Future' Hidden Detail Spotted by Movie Buff

Now a cult classic, the '80s masterpiece that is Back To The Future spawned a generation of kids desperate to get their hands on hoverboards and DeLoreans.

Despite being released more than 30 years ago, one fan spotted an "Easter egg" in the original movie, referencing the Doc and Marty's time travels.

TikToker @Hiddenmoviedetails shared a clip, saying: "Did you know that in Back To The Future, made in 1985, when Marty is first meeting up with the Doc to see the DeLorean, he's meeting up at Twin Pines Mall.

"But later in the movie, when Marty's coming back from the past, we can see that the mall has changed to Lone Pine Mall."

The Subtle Easter Egg Tribute to Jennifer Aniston's Real Dad in 'Friends'

It wasn't just movies people were watching, as television fans also treated themselves to more re-runs of the ever popular sitcom, Friends.

Ending more than 20 years ago, nostalgia for the six New Yorkers has never been higher, and one avid watcher spotted a subtle Easter egg to Jennifer Aniston's real dad, John Aniston.

In Episode 24 of Season 7, called The One with Monica and Chandler's Wedding: Part 2, Rachel is hunting for an officiant, when she comes across a sign for "Anastassakis Papasifakis wedding."

She pronounces the name flawlessly as the former is the original last name of her father, Yannis Anastassakis, who was born in Crete and later moved to the U.S., anglicizing their names.

'Titanic' Fans Have Just Realized There's an Alternate Ending—Which Changes the Entire Film

Titanic is one of the most famous movies of all time, and one of only three to scoop 11 Oscars. But fans were shocked to discover the 1997 blockbuster has an alternative ending.

TikToker Jo Hathaway shared a clip sharing the footage, asking: "How did I not know this!"

The different ending sees Rose Calvert let Brock Lovett hold the priceless heart of the ocean, before she tosses it into the sea.

'Lilo & Stitch' Fans Spot Detail in Disney Movie You Probably Never Noticed

The list wouldn't be complete without a Disney movie, with eagle-eyed fan DazedNsuperConfused sharing their find to Reddit.

They spotted a subtle reference to another Disney film in Lilo and Stitch, set in Hawaii.

The 2002 film tells the story of Lilo Pelekai and her sister Nani, who adopt a blue alien, Stitch.

But in the background of Nani's bedroom is a poster for another film, Mulan, released in 1998, on the wall.

'50 Shades' Fan Spots Easter Egg Tribute to Dakota Johnson's Mom

From a children's film to one for adults, the book-turned-film trilogy, 50 Shades, features a tribute to Dakota Johnson's mom.

The actress, who played Anastasia Steele, is the daughter of Melanie Griffiths, who is best-known for her starring role in the 1988 film, Working Girl, as Tess.

In the movie, Tess turns to a female colleague and utters an iconic line, which Johnson repeats nearly word-for-word, only changing the name, in Fifty Shades Darker.

The homage was picked up by fan Christasia, who shared side-by-side clips of both films to TikTok.

'The Matrix' Fans Are Only Just Noticing This Very Obvious Mistake in the Movie

Matrix fans are getting ready for the next installment of the franchise, The Matrix Resurrections, but one fan spotted something amiss in the original.

An undisputed masterpiece, the 1999 flick features the characters—including Neo aka Keanu Reeves, and Trinity, played by Carrie-Anne Moss—firing a substantial number of weapons.

But movie buff Glt23 spotted an error, and shared a snap on Reddit, captioned: "In The Matrix (1999) you can see a full blank coming out of the pistol as Neo is shot the second time. I've seen this movie many times and [it's the] first time I had caught this."

'Frozen' Fan Spots X-Rated Moment in Disney Classic

Another Disney movie makes the list, Frozen, and it's a similarly risqué scene which was picked up by viewers.

The singalong showstopper features Anna and Elsa as the main characters, with one scene showing the younger sister chatting with Kristoff, on a sleigh ride.

Professing her love for her new fiancé, Kristoff quizzes her, asking her what his shoe size is.

"Foot size doesn't matter," Anna replies, widely thought to reference the urban myth that shoe size is linked to the size of another part of the male anatomy.

Martinez shared the clip to her TikTok page, as part of her "childhood films filled with adult jokes" series.

Woman Spots Mistake in 'Sex and the City' Intro You Probably Never Noticed

With the reboot currently on our screens, Sex and the City is enjoying a renewed interest.

The six seasons, which ran from 1998 until 2004, starred Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, Charlotte York and Samantha Jones.

With Carrie the protagonist, the intro featured her on the streets of New York getting splashed by a bus.

But TikToker, Kara McLean, spotted two continuity errors, the first being the bus which soaks her is miles away from the curb, and the passengers all mysteriously disappear as the vehicle turns the corner.
