Alaska voters are turning out in large numbers ahead of the midterm election, with more than 58,000 ballots already cast, according to data from the state's Division of Elections. When the Milwaukee Brewers arrived from Seattle in 1970, no one could know how long it would take the team to win its first World Series championship. The Trump administration said FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will not serve as federal election monitors during the 2026 general election, according to a Justice Department court filing Wednesday.

Hello —I’m Dan Orton, Welcome to Newsweek’s Bulletin. Here’s what you need to know today. Alaska voters are turning out in large numbers ahead of the midterm election, with more than 58,000 ballots already cast, according to data from the state's Division of Elections. The early voting total has already surpassed the pace seen during the state's 2022 midterm and is on track to approach or exceed the record early turnout recorded in 2024. The surge comes as the Senate race between Democrat Mary Peltola and Republican Senator Dan Sullivan draws national attention. Republicans allege that Democratic operatives helped recruit a second candidate named Dan J. Sullivan to run alongside the incumbent in an effort to confuse voters. The Milwaukee Brewers have defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 of the World Series to claim their first-ever championship. The Brewers enjoyed one of the most dominant postseason runs in baseball history, winning 11 games and losing only two. They nearly swept the Rays out of the World Series on Tuesday, before the Rays pulled out a thrilling 12-inning victory. The Trump administration said FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will not serve as federal election monitors during the 2026 general election. The Department of Justice said in an October 28 court filing that it is not using sworn law enforcement officers with arrest powers as monitors in a law enforcement capacity. The Justice Department said its election monitors will follow practices used in past cycles, receive training on federal and local law, and be barred from carrying firearms or displaying identifying federal attire. That’s all for now – see you next time
