Quito, Ecuador Drawing Fire Demonstrators clash with riot police after thousands flooded the capital’s streets on October 9 to protest President Lenín Moreno’s order to end fuel subsidies. Indigenous protesters, who came from the country’s Amazon, led 11 days of demonstrations that caused Moreno to withdraw an austerity package and repeal subsidy cuts. In response, celebrations broke out across the city.
