Once PGA Tour veteran Adam Scott tees off in his first round at the 126th U.S. Open, he'll become just the second player in history to record 100 consecutive major championship starts — joining all-time great golf legend Jack Nicklaus.

Nicklaus made it well past the 100 mark, finishing his career with 146 straight major starts.

"It's been fun," Scott said at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on Tuesday, via ESPN reporter Mark Schlabach. "I had a photograph with Jack Nicklaus a couple of weeks ago at his Memorial Tournament, and he's the other guy who made it to a hundred in a row. He, in fact, made it way past that, and I can't even think about playing another 11 or 12 years straight of these, but I'm really excited for this week."

Scott, 45, recognizes the magnitude of this moment. However, he finds it difficult to focus on this milestone while still competing at a high level.

"Yeah, it's an interesting one, as I've thought about it over the last couple of weeks, obviously this week getting closer," he added. "I found it difficult at first reflecting on something while I'm still playing. I think I've never really been one to dwell on milestones. I think it's something I'll probably do at the end of my career.

"It's a strange one because it's not something you really set out to do or aim for."

Scott is a one-time major champion, winning The Masters in 2013. His best performance at the U.S. Open came when he notched a T4 finish at Chambers Bay in 2015. Last year, he recorded a T12 finish at Oakmont Country Club.

Scott will tee off alongside Harris English and Nick Taylor at 8:03 a.m. ET on Thursday.
