The college football transfer portal officially opened on Friday, and it's turning teams upside down -- including the Penn State Nittany Lions.

The portal is an online database for college athletes to declare their wishes to transfer and play for a different school, according to the NCAA. After a student enters the portal, coaches are able to contact the players for recruitment, similar to the NFL's free agency system but for college players.

For certain teams, the transfer portal has hit them extra hard, and Penn State is one of those teams. The Nittany Lions closed out the 2025-26 season with a 7-6 record and are looking to improve in 2026 under new head coach Matt Campbell.

More sports news: Penn State Signs Highly Rated Offensive Player in the Transfer Portal

"Penn State true freshman TE Andrew Olesh is entering the transfer portal, he tells On3 Sports," Hayes Fawcett said on X. He adds that Fawcett, a 6'5 tight end, was ranked as a five-star Recruit in the 2025 On300, plus as the No .1 tight end. He'll have four years of eligibility left."

Olesh didn't register a stat in 2025. Hailing from Southern Lehigh High School, Olesh came from Center Valley, Pennsylvania, in the class of 2025. He was the No. 1 player from the state, the No. 3 tight end overall and the No. 57 player overall, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Thankfully, the Nittany Lions already have a replacement lined up. Olesh's decision to leave comes after former Iowa State tight end Ben Brahmer decided to commit to Penn State earlier on Saturday, according to On3.
